Frequently asked questions
Where do I go to study?
Each subject has an intensive facilitation that students are required to attend. Apart from this (usually 1.5 day event) study can be done at home and assignments submitted electronically.
What will I be required to do?
Vocational subjects are studied in two semesters of 18 weeks throughout the year. Most subjects require approximately 60 hours to be completed during a semester. These hours normally consist of the following:
- a workbook with approximately 7-10 sessions for you to complete during the semester;
- 3-4 vocational assessments. These are tailored to help you apply what you have learned in your local ministry context and form the basis of your competency assessment.
- Generally 2 weekend (Fri night/Sat) facilitations led by one of our qualified trainers. Facilitations may also be held weekly in some areas depending on trainer availability and student interest.
When can I start studying?
Semester 1 begins 13th February and ends 15th June (Assignments due 29/06/12)
Semester 2 begins 16th July and ends 16th November (Assignments due 30/11/12)
How much time will it take per subject?
It takes approximately 60 hours for one subject to be completed over the course of a semester. Divide this by the number of weeks in a semester and the average subject will take 3 to 4 hours out of your weekly schedule. So a full-time student would need to find 12-20 hours a week to complete their studies on time (depending on whether they did 4 or 5 subjects).
Can I study online?
Soon you will be able to.
Do I have to go to the facilitation?
It is strongly encouraged that you attend, however, if circumstances do not allow or a facilitation cannot be run, subjects can be completed without them.
Can I attend the classes but not do the assessment (audit)?
Subjects of the Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology can be audited but not of the Diploma. Each subject costs $75 to audit.
I'm an international student. Can I study at the Alliance College?
Unfortunately, only those with permanent residence in Australia may study at ACA.
